What is an IBCLC?

An IBCLC is a professional who has the essential skills and knowledge to provide quality breastfeeding support to babies and parents. Her specialized knowledge and clinical expertise in human lactation allows her to support breastfeeding families through common and complex challenges, all while respecting their unique needs.

When to Seek Help?

An IBCLC can provide help with many breastfeeding concerns, such as:

  • Pain and injury to the nipples (cracking, vasospasm, milk blisters, etc.)
  • Breast pain (engorgement, blocked ducts, mastitis, candidiasis, etc.)
  • Insufficient milk production or overproduction
  • Difficult latching, refusal of the breast
  • Breastfeeding babies with special situations (short tongue frenulum, hypotonia, malformation, etc.)
  • Breastfeeding with specific maternal conditions (insufficiency of glandular tissue, breast surgery, etc.)
  • Breastfeeding premature babies, twins
  • Education and preparation in the prenatal period
  • Slow or insufficient weight gain in the baby
  • Induced lactation and breastfeeding of an adopted baby


 

The AQC’s mission is to promote the profession of the IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) to the public we serve, as well as in the healthcare system in which we work.
